Florian Innerkofler, (b. 1977), is an Austrian-born contemporary photographer and fine artist whose practice has been shaped by more than three decades of photographing people, places and cultures around the world. Based in Toronto, his work moves fluidly between photography, fashion, travel, architecture and fine art, creating atmospheric images that explore light, beauty, memory and the emotional character of a place.

His journey began in Austria, where he graduated with distinction from the State School of Photography. Early in his career he worked alongside renowned photographers including Andreas H. Bitesnich and Greg Gorman, experiences that helped shape his approach to portraiture, light and visual storytelling. He went on to build an international career in commercial, editorial, fashion and beauty photography, working across Europe, North America and Asia for clients and publications including Vogue Beauty, Glamour, Marie Claire, L’Oréal Paris, Rimmel London and Universal Music, as well as luxury automotive brands including Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar.

Travel has always been at the heart of Innerkofler’s photographic practice. Over the course of his career, he has travelled extensively through Europe, North America, Asia and other parts of the world, continually collecting images, fragments and impressions. From the Mediterranean coastlines of Greece, Spain and Portugal to the streets of New York, Shanghai, Kyoto and Toronto, these journeys have become an evolving visual archive. His photographs are less concerned with documenting a destination than with capturing the feeling of being there — the light, the silence, the architecture, the human presence and those fleeting moments that become lasting memories.

Since 2015, Innerkofler has focused his practice on fine-art photography, developing a distinctive body of work in which travel, fashion, architecture and contemporary visual culture converge. His ongoing series include Greek Summer, Siesta X Finca, Toronto, Muskoka, as well as bodies of work exploring landscape, the human form, urban environments and abstraction. Alongside limited-edition photographic works, he creates one-of-a-kind mixed-media pieces incorporating photography, vintage maps, acrylic, ink and other hand-applied materials.

Innerkofler’s work has been presented in exhibitions in Canada and internationally, including his 2020 solo exhibition Shaped Moments at Berenson Fine Art in Toronto, which marked an important moment in the development of his fine-art practice and was subsequently featured in The Globe and Mail, Canadas leading newspaper. His work has also been presented through international group exhibitions and collaborations, including recent exhibitions connecting his photography with contemporary art audiences in Sydney, Singapore and Florence.

A significant part of Innerkofler’s practice is his collaboration with interior designers, architects and hospitality professionals throughout North America. His photographs are conceived not only as images but as objects that inhabit and transform a space. Working closely with designers and private clients, he creates and selects works for residential, hospitality and commercial interiors, considering scale, framing, light and the relationship between artwork and architecture.

After more than a decade in New York City, Innerkofler continues to develop new bodies of work from his Toronto studio, drawing on an extensive photographic archive built through decades of international travel. His limited-edition photographs and original works are collected by private clients and presented through gallery representation, as well as direct collaborations with interior designers, architects and collectors.

At the centre of his practice is a simple idea:

“It is about creating an emotion, a feeling, a memory — which remains long after the moment has passed.”

For Innerkofler, photography is a way of preserving the atmosphere of a moment — transforming places encountered, people observed and experiences gathered around the world into images that can continue to live in another person's space and memory.
